What is Egyptian Cotton?

To get straight to the point: Egyptian cotton, along with Supima cotton, has the longest fiber, making it the most durable cotton in the world. The finest cotton types (such as Egyptian cotton) have longer fibers, which allow for the spinning of thinner threads. These thinner threads can be woven closer together, resulting in a higher thread count. The longer the cotton fiber, the softer, suppler, and higher the quality of the cotton. For this reason, it is a popular choice for bed linens in five-star hotels. The quality of bed linen made from Egyptian cotton is immediately noticeable and distinguishable from others. DOUXE duvet cover sets are produced in Portugal with a certificate of authenticity. All DOUXE Egyptian cotton products carry the seal of the Egyptian Cotton Association. This seal guarantees superior quality cotton grown in Egypt.

What is the difference between Egyptian cotton and percale cotton?

Egyptian cotton refers to the type of cotton, while percale or percal refers to the weaving method. Cotton can be finished with either a satin weave or a percale weave. In a satin weave, the horizontal thread is woven over at least one vertical thread and under four vertical threads. This creates the shiny and soft feel of cotton satin. In a percale weave, the threads are woven in a plain weave pattern, with the horizontal thread going over one vertical thread and then under one vertical thread. The percale weave gives the cotton a 'crisp' and cooling feel and a matte look.

What does 400 TC mean?

What is thread count? Thread count is the density of threads per square inch, or the number of threads per 2.54 square centimeters. The vertical threads (warp) and horizontal threads (weft) are added together to determine the thread count. In English, this is called thread count, abbreviated to TC. The higher the thread count, the smoother and softer the cotton feels. Due to the fine, long fibers of Egyptian cotton, we can achieve this high thread count.

Durable bed linen

Egyptian cotton bed linen is known for its durability and soft, luxurious feel. But did you know that it gets even better with time? As you use and wash the bed linen more often, it gets softer and more comfortable. This is because the long cotton fibres relax more and more and the cotton retains its natural softness. This makes bed linen not only nice to sleep in, but also a sustainable long-term investment.

What is Egyptian cotton?

Egyptian cotton differs from other cotton varieties because it has the longest fibre in existence. This makes this unique type of cotton extra strong and super soft. It is the softest cotton available, has a high quality and is long-lasting. Unlike lower-quality cottons, Egyptian cotton will only improve after repeated washing. New Egyptian cotton bed linen may feel a bit stiff, but it will get softer with time. Unfortunately, cotton bed linen is often labelled as 'Egyptian cotton' when in reality it is not. In fact, research in the US shows that 80% of bedding labelled as 100% Egyptian cotton is actually made from a cotton blend. By looking at the price of duvet covers, you can quickly determine whether it is actually made of Egyptian cotton or not. Duvet covers made of genuine Egyptian cotton are generally more expensive due to their high quality. Fortunately, there is now a certificate of authenticity from the Cotton Egyptian Association.

It is true that percal creases more at first. With use and washing, the fibres become increasingly supple, making it less and less wrinkly. It also helps to pull the bed linen tight and let it air dry. Percal dries quickly, so does not necessarily need to be tumble-dried. Also follow the washing instructions.

What makes duvet covers hotel quality?

DOUXE has developed a high-quality collection of luxury hotel-quality duvet covers produced in Portugal. Our bed linen is made of 100% certified Egyptian cotton, Satin or Percal woven and of luxurious quality with high Thread Count (thread density). So you can also experience the five-star feel of a hotel at home!

The most memorable overnight stays are generally those in a luxury hotel. This has to do with relaxation, a feeling of being 'away', and the many new impressions you process during the night that cause you to fall into a deep sleep. But also, of course, to the quality of the bedding. Five-star hotels spend a lot of time selecting the finest bedding. Think thickly filled yet lightweight down duvets, down mattress toppers (Featherbeds) and bed linen made of 100% Egyptian percal cotton. And that's not for nothing; The main reason why guests prefer one hotel over another is the bed. Therefore, the bed better be fantastic. Every layer of these beds is thicker, softer and more unforgettable. We develop the finest bed products for these classy hotels and for us, hotel quality means the right combination of lying comfort, durability and choice of materials. A five-star feeling in your own bedroom guaranteed!

What size duvet cover do I need?

The size of the duvet cover depends on the size of the duvet. The most common single duvet size is 140 cm wide and 220 cm long. For a double duvet size, it is 240 cm wide x 220 cm long.

If you need a new duvet with cover and don't know which size to choose, the mattress size is a good starting point.

For 160 cm or 180 cm wide mattresses, a 240 cm wide duvet looks best.

For a 200 cm wide mattress, a 260 cm wide duvet with cover looks best. The length depends on the length of the mattress. A 220 cm length fits a 200 cm to 220 cm long mattress.

What size fitted sheet do I need?

First of all, it is good to know that the DOUXE fitted sheet can be used for several types of mattresses and mattress combinations. Our fitted sheets have a corner height of 45 cm and can be used on all mattresses from 5 to 45 cm. Thanks to the strong elastic border, the fitted sheet is pulled tight under the mattress. It fits perfectly around thick mattresses or combinations of mattress and topper, but also around a topper alone. Our advice, however, is always to add a protective layer to protect the mattress from dirt. This can be done with a flannel fitted sheet or topper. You then put the fitted sheet over this.

What is the difference between a fitted sheet and a sheet?

Hotels often opt for a sheet when making up the mattress. A sheet is easier to professionally clean and press. For at home, we recommend using a fitted sheet. The fitted sheet has elastic and is therefore easy and tight to make up. It is very important to choose a good size fitted sheet to prevent shifting.

What does Thread Count stand for?

Thread Count is literally the thread density of a fabric and indicates the weave density of the cotton. A Thread Count of 300TC means it has a thread density of 300 threads per square inch. The higher the TC the finer and higher quality the bed linen. Our linen ranges from 300 TC to 600 TC.
