Interview with Noëlle Baartmans: On Travel, Design and Bringing the Hotel Feeling Home

A collaboration infused with travel, memories and refined interiors

With the Noëlle Baartmans x DOUXE Collection, a shared passion for travel, design and luxury comes together. For this collaboration, interior designer Noëlle Baartmans translated three iconic destinations – Los Angeles, Paris and the Cotswolds – into concepts that make the feeling of a hotel suite tangible at home. In this interview, she shares her background, inspirations and vision behind the collection.

A childhood of travel

Noëlle grew up in Asia, in cities such as Singapore and Hong Kong. Travel was an integral part of her life from an early age. “I was always fascinated by other cultures, the way people live, their architecture and traditions,” she explains. “That curiosity eventually became the foundation of my work. Every interior I design is a mix of influences, always tailored to the place, the home and the people who live there.”

A style that breathes warmth

Although she dislikes labels, Noëlle describes her style as personal, warm and worldly. “A home should feel authentic. I love bringing together objects and textures from different countries – a carefully curated mix that gives a space its soul.” She also embraces historic details: “Beamed ceilings, natural stone or original tiles – I love to highlight the authenticity of a space.”

Inspiration from three destinations

For the collection with DOUXE, Noëlle, together with co-owner Liselotte, chose three destinations that hold meaning in both their lives:

  • Paris, her favourite city, where she never leaves without visiting the Paul Bert Serpette market in search of unique vintage treasures.
  • The Cotswolds, a place of retreat. “Walks in the rolling hills, a glass of red wine by the fire, cosy jumpers and boots – the ultimate countryside escape.”
  • Los Angeles, where the city’s vibrant energy blends seamlessly with laid-back beach life. “City and surf in one – that contrast is incredibly inspiring.”

Three moods, three interpretations

Together with DOUXE, Noëlle translated these destinations into three distinct moods: laid-back Californian, cosy countryside and classic city chic. Each has its own character, yet all share the same story: combining the hotel experience with the warmth and individuality of home.

Travel as fuel

For Noëlle, travel is more than leisure – it is her constant source of inspiration. “It gives me energy and stimulates my thoughts. It’s my fuel,” she says. “Japan and Brazil are high on my list for future inspiration.”

A collaboration born of good energy

The collaboration with DOUXE began when Noëlle met Liselotte in the showroom. What started as a business meeting quickly turned into a morning of recognition. “We discovered we had both lived in Singapore and immediately reminisced about shared memories – with the Raffles Hotel as a favourite.” The connection was instant, and the collaboration grew organically out of passion and positive energy.

The hotel feeling at home

What does she hope people experience with the collection? “That they feel the hotel atmosphere – but in their own home. The quality of DOUXE, combined with my love of travel and styling, creates a mix of luxury and experience. As if you bring a piece of holiday into your home – every single day.”
